Modernity dreams in glass: Nothing to hide, nothing to admit to, nothing to confess. But the more we show, the less we seem to be, for transparency comes with a price: the redeployment of masks, the destruction of sensory depth and the loss of opacity's charm.

Yet while the built world gives in to the ethos of the transparency society, Jana Pressler probes the façade's materiality anew, asking what role opacity might play in a world of restless commerce with nothing left to hide.
